I do my best to keep up with AI developments – things move so fast that the typical academic models really can’t keep up anymore (even conference papers are several months behind by the time they are published). On top of that, you certainly can’t stay in a bubble and be successful. There are really important things happening in academia, industry, and in educational practice that are highly relevant (to me).
Here are some resources that have become part of my routine:
- Podcasts:
- AI for Humans – These guys are incredible and genuinely funny. They cover a lot, including emerging capabilities and cool applications of AI (called “AI see what you did there”). The newsletter is also great.
- Last Week in AI – This one is far more technical, but makes a great counterpart to AI for Humans. They follow industry and academic developments, industry news, and do not shy away from details. The newsletter provides a lot more than the show (and the shows already push 90 minutes each).
- AI Explained – These are shorter and more focused videos that find the sweet spot on helping you understand AI, but also see what is new and cool.
- Newsletters / Blogs / Follows:
- AlphaSignal – One of the best emails you’ll get, I find myself clicking a bunch of the links because they find the most interesting work out there.
- MarkTechPost – Frequenly overlaps with AlphaSignal, but not enough to be surprising. Together you get great coverage of the latest developments in industry and academia.
- One Useful Thing – Ethan Mollick’s blog has all kinds of useful content, plus thoughtful and insightful commentary. You should follow him on social media if you don’t already (LinkedIn and Bluesky).
- Ben’s Bites – Curated tutorials, demos, and AI information. Focus is on skill building and application. I only use the free version, but there are paid tiers.
- Superhuman AI – Similar to the others in some ways, but a bit more business focused overall.
- Towards Data Science – This is an excellent resource for revisiting the fundamentals and to beef up your understanding of key ideas in Generative AI (AI in general too).
- AI Education:
- AI4K12 – This is the goto community for teaching AI to K-12 learners. The Five Big Ideas in AI has become foundational, and this community is engaging in everything teachers and schools need: curriculum development, design of learning activities, empirical research, and more.
- TeachAI – Similar in some ways, but a bit more organized with nice looking reports and guidance documents for teaching and policy.
